Apple Butter Uses: More than Fall's Favorite Condiment

 Apple sauce is often used in place of oil in recipes and apple butter can add a pop of spice and richness to your baked treats, not to mention to add extra moisture.

Apple Butter Breakfast Bake

 Ingredients

  • 1 lb breakfast sausage (I used Hot) 
  • 2 packages crescent rolls
  • 7 eggs
  • ½ cup milk
  • ½ cup Apple Butter
  • 1 cup shredded sharp cheddar 

 Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 375°F. Spray 15x8x2" casserole dish with non-stick cooking spray.
  2. Brown the sausage.  Remove any excess grease.
  3. Roll up the crescent rolls and line them up in the bottom of the casserole dish.
  4. Whisk together the eggs, milk, Apple Butter and half of shredded cheese.
  5. Scatter the crumbled cooked sausage over the top of the crescent rolls in the baking dish. Next pour the egg mixture over the top and sprinkle the remaining cheese.
  6. Bake for 20-25 minutes or until the eggs have completely set in the center. Enjoy!

Apple Butter Pumpkin Pie w/Brown Sugar Streusel

 Ingredients

  • 1 box-pre-made pie crust
  • 1-15oz can of pumpkin puree
  • ½ cup Ann's Apple Butter- Regular
  • ½ cup brown sugar
  • 1 tsp ground cinnamon
  • 1/4 tsp each of ground ginger, ground nutmeg, ground cloves, ground allspice
  • 3 Eggs
  • 3/4 cup half & half
  • 4 Tbsp unsalted butter, cold and cubed 
  • 4 Tbsp all-purpose flour
  • 4 Tbsp brown sugar
  • 1/3 cup chopped pecans

 Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 375°F.  Set out a 9"-10" pie dish (ungreased).
  2. Unroll one roll of  pre-made pie crust and place on bottom of pie dish. Tuck the end of the dough and crimp the edges.  Set aside. 
  3. Grab a large mixing bowl and combine- pumpkin puree, apple butter and brown sugar.  Add in all spices to mixture until well combined.
  4. Add in half & half and eggs until fully incorporated. 
  5. Pour filling mixture into prepared pie crust and smooth until nice and even.  
  6. Bake for 30 mins. While baking prepare the streusel topping.
  7. In a small bowl, mix brown sugar, flour, and pecans together.  With a pastry cutter- work the cubed butter until the mixture- until resembles coarse crumbles.
  8. Sprinkle the streusel over top of pie and bake for an additional 30-35 minutes.  
  9. Allow to cool at least 30 minutes and refrigerate before serving.  

Apple Butter Crumble Bars

 Ingredients 

  • 1 ½ cups sifted flour
  • 1 tsp baking soda
  • 1 tsp salt
  • 2 ½ cups cooking oats
  • 1 ½ cups sugar
  • 1 cup melted butter or margarine
  • 1 ½ - 2 cups Apple Butter 
  • ½ cup chopped nuts (I prefer walnuts or pecans)

Instructions 

  1. Preheat the oven to 350°F.  Grease 15x8x2" pan, set aside.
  2. Sift together ingredients flour, baking soda and salt.
  3. Fold in oats, sugar and melted butter.
  4. Press ½ of mixture into bottom of greased pan.
  5. Next, spread Apple Butter as your 2nd layer.
  6. Add remaining mixture as top layer.  
  7. Sprinkle nuts over top and press lightly into mixture.
  8. Bake for 45-55 minutes, be careful not to over bake.
  9. Cool and cut into squares
